Clutch failure mode causes and solutions - poor disengagement

Release time:2024-02-29 Author: Traffic:31

Fault phenomenon of poor disengagement (difficulty in engaging gears)

When a car is starting or shifting gears while driving, if the clutch is not fully disengaged and is in a half-engaged state after depressing the clutch pedal, it can lead to difficulties in shifting gears (or changing gears), and the gearbox may produce a gear clashing sound; in some cases, the car may start or the engine may stall even before the clutch pedal is lifted after shifting gears.

When the clutch experiences poor disengagement, it can cause difficulty in shifting gears, and in severe cases, gear shifting can only be achieved by stopping the engine. Test drive inspection method: When the clutch experiences poor disengagement, the following methods can be used to confirm its disengagement point and engagement point:

1) Set the engine to idle speed, (with the transmission in neutral)

2) To ensure safety, engage the handbrake and apply the footbrake.

3) Without depressing the clutch pedal (i.e., in the clutch engaged state), slowly move the gear shift lever towards the reverse gear position. When you hear the gear whine, stop operating the gear shift lever and maintain the gear whine sound.

4) While maintaining the gear whine, slowly depress the clutch pedal and locate the point where the gear whine disappears. This point where the gear whine disappears is referred to as the "disengagement point";.

5) Press the clutch pedal in this state to fully disengage the clutch, keep the gearshift lever in place, and slowly release the clutch pedal. You will hear the gear whine again, and this position is called the "engagement point". If the disengagement and engagement points cannot be found under normal conditions after eliminating the possibility of a faulty disengagement mechanism, it can be determined that the clutch is not disengaging properly.
